Rafael Nadal worried a rib injury might prevent him from playing in French Open
It looks like the French Open could be missing some star power this year.
Rafael Nadal confirmed that he sustained a rib injury that will keep him sidelined for 4-6 weeks. With the French Open scheduled just two months from now on May 22, the timeline for his injury recovery will make it difficult for him to return to form in time for one of the biggest events in tennis.
“This is not good news and I didn’t expect it…I’m devastated and sad because it comes after a great start to the season.” said Nadal via his official; Twitter account.
The 35-year old Spaniard suffered the injury while competing against Carlos Alcaraz at the BNP Paribas Open semifinals on March 19th. He ended up losing in the finals to 20th ranked American Taylor Fritz in straight sets the following day.
Nadal currently has the most Grand Slam titles in ATP history at 21. Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are just behind him at 20.
