After failing to make the Champions League and falling from first to seventh place in the Premier League standings over a span of four months, Tottenham Hotspur have decided to relieve manager Jose Mourinho of his duties.

“Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club,” said Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

“Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”

Mourinho, who was hired back in November 2019, led Tottenham to a combined 44-19-23 record and an underwhelming 51.16 win percentage in his 17 month tenure with the club.

The move comes less than a week before their scheduled to play in the League Cup final against Manchester City this upcoming Sunday.
