Jaguars hire Doug Pederson as their new head coach
The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially put the embarrassing Urban Meyers saga behind them.
The team announced on Friday that they have hired former Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson to be the ninth head coach in franchise history.
“Doug Pederson four years ago won a Super Bowl as head coach of a franchise in pursuit of its first world championship,” said Jaguars owner Shad Khan.
“I hope Doug can replicate that magic here in Jacksonville, but what is certain is his proven leadership and experience as a winning head coach in the National Football League…It’s exactly what our players deserve. Nothing less.”
The 54-year-old was reportedly one of the first head coaching candidates interviewed by the team back in December, and clearly left a major impression on the ownership and front office.
Pederson previously enjoyed a five season stint with the Eagles, posting a combined 42-37-1 record, making three postseason appearances and winning a Super Bowl during that span.
