NBA vows not to pause season despite rise in COVID-19 cases: “This virus will not be eradicated, and we’re going to have to learn to live with it”
Don’t expect the NBA to follow the NHL’s lead with their handling of surging COVID-19 cases throughout the league.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke about the ongoing issue earlier this week, and explained why he doesn’t plan on temporary stopping games from being played as a remedy to the spread of COVID-19.
“We have of course looked at all the options, but frankly we are having trouble coming up with what the logic would be behind pausing right now” said Silver.
“As we look through these cases literally ripping through the country … I think we’re finding ourselves where we knew we were going to get to over the past several months, and that is this virus will not be eradicated, and we’re going to have to learn to live with it”.
As a way to help teams out that have been ravaged by COVID-19 outbreaks, the league will allow them to sign players via hardship exemption that don’t count towards the salary cap.
