Tigers ink starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez to five-year deal
It appears that the Detroit Tigers have won the Eduardo Rodriguez sweepstakes.
According to reports, the team has signed the right-handed free agent starter to a five-year contract worth approximately $77 million-$80 million in total value. The deal, which will pay him a minimum annual average value of $15.4, will also include an opt out after the second year.
The 28-year old had spent the past six seasons with the Boston Red Sox organization. In 2021, he posted a 13-8 record, 4.74 ERA, 3.32 FIP and 1.32 WHIP over a span of 32 appearances and 157.2 innings pitched.
He is two years removed from a career campaign where he amassed 19 wins, a career-low 3.81 ERA and finished sixth in AL Cy Young voting.
He missed the entire pandemic shortened 2020 season after contracting COVID-19 and being diagnosed with a serious heart condition known as myocarditis.
