Justin Verlander admits he is interested in eventual reunion with Detroit Tigers
Houston Astros star Justin Verlander has been with the franchise since 2017. But prior to that, he spent the first twelve-plus seasons with the Detroit Tigers.
The 38-year old won the American League Rookie of the Year award, a Cy Young, American League MVP and made six MLB All-Star appearances during his Tigers tenure. He also posted a combined 183-114 record, 3.49 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 2373 strikeouts over 2511.0 innings pitched.
Keeping that in mind, its clear he has fond memories of his time in Detroit. Would he ever consider returning before the end of his playing career? It’s certainly a possibility.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about it,” said Verlander.
“Yeah, of course. I loved playing there. I love the city. I love the fans. Yes, I do think about it. Ultimately, the decision comes down to what’s best for my career. If that aligns with that possibility, then maybe it does.”
Verlander, who will be an unrestricted free agent following the season, is making $33 million in 2021. He has been sidelined while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
