Braves starter Charlie Morton out for rest of World Series after fracturing right fibula
The Atlanta Braves may have won the World Series opener, but lost a key piece of their rotation in the process.
The team confirmed that veteran starter Charlie Morton sustained a right fibula fracture during their convincing 6-2 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.
He was seen collapsing in pain after striking out Jose Altuve with a 2-2 curveball for the first out in the third. As it turned out, he actually sustained the fracture in the second inning when he took a 102 mph Yuli Gurriel one-hopper off his leg but recovered to retrieve the ball and get the out.
He managed to record three outs and throw 16 pitches on what was essentially a broken leg before the Braves’ training staff realized the injury was serious and removed him from the contest.
