Blue Jays finalizing trade to acquire Matt Chapman from Athletics
The Toronto Blue Jays might have just secured themselves a big upgrade on the left side of their infield.
According to several reports, the team is on the verge of acquiring star third baseman Matt Chapman from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for the 19th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft Gunnar Hoglund, infield prospect Kevin Smith, minor league pitcher Zach Logue, and veteran reliever Kirby Snead.
Chapman has solidified himself as one of the best defensive third baseman in all of baseball, and a consistent power bat that is a threat for 25-35 homers a season.
The 27-year old, who will still be under team control under after the 2023 season, posted a .210 batting average, .716 OPS, 27 homers and 72 RBI in 151 games last year.
He has also won three Gold Glove Awards, two Platinum Glove Awards, two Fielding Bible Awards throughout his career, and was an MLB All-Star back in 2019.
