Blue Jays agree to terms with 10 different players, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Matt Chapman and Teoscar Hernandez
The Toronto Blue Jays took care of business on and off the field on Tuesday afternoon.
While they were in the midst of manhandling the New York Yankees in a 9-2 win during Spring Training action, they avoided arbitration and signed 10 different major league players to new contracts for the 2022 season.
Some of the more notable deals:
- The team signed newly acquired third baseman Matt Chapman to a two-year, $25 million contract extension, eating up the final two years of arbitration before he is able to test unrestricted free agency
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr, fresh off an MVP calibre season, agrees to a one-year, $7.9 million
- Two-time Silver Slugger Award winner Teoscar Hernandez receives $10.65 million contract in 2022.
The remainder of the contracts, which were all one-year extensions, went as follows
- Infleider Cavan Biggio = $2.11 million
- Relievers Ryan Borucki = $825,000, Adam Cimber = $1,58 million, Ross Stripling = $3.79 million, Tim Mayza = $1.25 million, Trent Thornton = $825,000
- Catcher Danny Jansen = $1.95 million
The team officially announced the deals on their social media accounts:
