Mets ink deGrom to five-year extension
The New York Mets were able to lock up the 2018 NL CY Young Award winner to a multi-year deal just days before their 2019 season gets underway.
The team are on the verge of signing ace Jacob deGrom to a five-year contract extension worth $137.5 million.
The 30-year old, who was still under team control until 2020 prior to the extension, is coming off a career year in 2018.
Over 32 starts and 217.0 innings pitched, deGrom posted a 10-9 record, league-best 1.70 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 269 strikeouts.
The deal comes just a day after teammate Noah Syndergaard’s public criticism of the team’s stalled extension talks with deGrom.
