Sabres goalie Aaron Dell suspended three games for dangerous hit on Senators forward Drake Batherson
It’s not often you see goalies get punished for their actions, but in this case the NHL was left with no other option.
The league has officially suspended Buffalo Sabres goalie Aaron Dell for three games for recklessly hitting Ottawa Senators forward Drake Batherson into the end boards during a game earlier this week.
The hit sent Batherson feet first in the boards, resulting in an ankle injury that will keep the Senators forward out of the lineup for an indefinite period of time.
Dell admitted after the game that it wasn’t his intention to hurt him or cause an injury.
“I was just trying to buy some time for my defenceman and step into [Batherson’s] lane,” said Dell.
“I hope he’s all right. I wasn’t trying to hurt anybody.”
Dell will also forfeit $11,250 in salary as a result of the suspension.
