Rangers legend Henrik Lundqvist calls it a career after 15 seasons
Henrik Lundqvist is done with hockey.
The legendary New York Rangers netminder announced his decision to retire on Friday after 15 incredible seasons in the NHL.
“For the last 30 years, I have devoted my life to the game of hockey… and now it’s time to walk away from the game I love and begin a new chapter,” said Lundqvist.
“The future excites me. I’ve met so many amazing people over the years that will help to guide and inspire me in my new journey.”
The 39-year old posted a 459-310-96 record, 2.43 goals-against average, .918 save percentage and 64 shutouts over a span of 887 career games, all with the Rangers organization.
He had signed with the Washington Capitals last season, but was unable to play due to a heart condition. He underwent successful open heart surgery in January.
