Mitch Marner, Rasmus Sandin out long-term as Leafs injury woes pile up
The Toronto Maple Leafs were given some not-so-positive updates regarding their injured regulars.
The team announced that star forward Mitch Marner and defenceman Rasmus Sandin have been placed on the Injured Reserve. As a corresponding move, they called up defencemen Alex Biega and Kristiāns Rubīns and forward Alex Steeves from the Toronto Marlies to replace them in the lineup.
Marner suffered a shoulder injury when he collided with teammate Jake Muzzin during practice on Friday. He is expected to be sidelined for approximately 3-4 weeks but their is a small chance he could come back sooner, accordion to head coach Sheldon Keefe.
Sandin injured his knee during a controversial knee-on-knee collision with Winnipeg Jets defenceman Neal Pionk on Sunday night, which resulted in Pionk getting suspended for two games. Forunately for Sandin, an MRI confirmed there was no structural damage in the injured knee, and he will be out for 2-3 weeks.
