The Tampa Bay Lightning will be without one of their top players for the foreseeable future.

The team announced on Tuesday that star winger Brayden Point will be sidelined week-to-week due to an upper body injury he suffered over the weekend.

Point sustained the injury during Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils when he was tripped by defensemen Ryan Graves while on a breakaway and collided hard into the boards midway through the third period.

Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper admits losing Point will be a hard pill to swallow but has faith in his team’s depth and ability to succeed without one of their top scorers.

“Can you replace players that are regarded as top-10 players in the league? No, those guys don’t just fall out of the sky,” said Cooper.

“I think what replaces them is the collective group, our confidence in our structure, the mentality in how we play the game.”
