Leafs defenceman Tyson Barrie will look to secure a long-term deal worth $8 million per season in free agency next summer
If Tyson Barrie comes as advertised for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019/2020, they are going to have their hands full in their attempts to re-sign him next offseason.
The 27-year old, who was acquired in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche last week, is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020. According to reports, he plans to ask for a lucrative long-term deal with an annual average of around $8 million over a span of eight seasons.
Barrie is coming off a successful season where he posted 14 goals and a career-high 59 points in 78 games with the Avalanche.
The right-handed offensively minded defenceman hopes to be apart of a Leafs team that can advance past the first round of an NHL post-season for the first time since 2004.
