Jets give GM Kevin Cheveldayoff new three-year extension
The Winnipeg Jets are not about to let the disappointing conclusion of the 2021/22 NHL season determine the fate of their longtime general manager. In fact, they have decided to double down on their confidence in him.
The team confirmed on Monday that they have inked Kevin Cheveldayoff to a three-year contract extension. The details surrounding the deal have not been made public.
The 52-year old has been the franchise’s general manager since they relocated from Atlanta to Winnipeg back in 2011. During his tenure, the team has posted a combined 419-324-86 record over a span of 11 regular season. They have also qualified for the playoffs in five of those seasons, including a four year streak from 2017-2021, and reached as far as the Western Conference Finals back in 2018.
Cheveldayoff also has an NHL General Manager of the Year Award under his belt after he built an impressive team that won 52 games and posted a franchise-best 114 points in 2017/18.
