Former NHL defenceman, executive Tom Kurvers passes away at 58
Some sad news coming out of the hockey world.
Longtime NHL defenceman, assistant coach and front office executive Tom Kurvers has died after a prolonged battle with lung cancer. He was 58.
Kurvers, who was taken 158th overall in the 1981 NHL Draft, played eleven seasons split between seven franchises between 1984-1995. During that span, he amassed 93 goals and 328 assists in 658 regular season games and won a Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens back in 1986.
Following his playing career, he enjoyed stints as an assistant coach, scout and director of player personnel with the Arizona Coyotes, an Assistant GM with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and most recently an Assistant GM with his hometown Minnesota Wild leading up to his final days on earth.
