Canadiens willing to part ways with Jeff Petty if they can “find a trade that works for us and another team”
The Montreal Canadiens are clearly in fire sale mode, and if you’re a fan of the team, you’re wondering how many of the veterans will be left on the roster after the trade deadline.
Veteran defenceman Jeff Petry was once considered a key part of their defensive core, but he is in the midst of an awful season and is on a long-term contract that could make him valuable to other teams as a rebound candidate.
Will they actually trade him or keep him to mentor the younger players through a rebuild? According to Sportsnet’s Eric Engels, Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes is willing to move on from him if they can “find a trade that works for us and another team”.
The 34-year old has recorded just two goals, five assists and a minus-13 rating in 41 games this season. He is in the second season of a four-year, $25 million contract extension he signed with the Canadiens back in September 2020.
The Canadiens are dead last in the NHL with a brutal 8-33-7 record through 48 games, are in the midst of a 10-game losing streak.
