Andrei Vasilevskiy wins Conn Smythe Trophy after incredible postseason run with Lightning
Following the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens to capture the Stanley Cup in Game 5, All-Star goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy was rewarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the 2021 NHL Playoffs.
The 26-year old, who is in his seventh season since being drafted 19th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft, grinded hard to get to this point in his career. Being the humble guy he is, Vasilevskiy took the opportunity to give credit for his teammates for allowing him to perform up to his capabilities.
“When a team is playing like this in front of you, you just get a lot of confidence from them and you’re trying to help them as much as you can and just try to be at your best every night.” said Vasilevskiy.
In 23 games this postseason, he posted a 16-7-0 record to go along with a .937 save percentage, 1.90 goals-against average and a whopping five shutouts.
