Evan Bouchard wins Max Kaminsky Trophy as OHL’s defenceman of the year
A highly touted Edmonton Oilers prospect is taking home some hardware in the juniors.
London Knights blueliner Evan Bouchard has been announced as the recipient for the 2019 Max Kaminsky Trophy, which is given to the top defenceman in the OHL in 2018/19.
The 19-year old Oakville, Ontario native, who was selected 10th overall by the Oilers in the 2018 NHL Draft, posted 16 goals, 37 assists and a plus-28 rating in 46 games this season.
“I am very honoured to be named defenceman of the year,” said Bouchard in a statement.
“With the quality of players throughout this talented league, this is an achievement that I am incredibly proud of.”
He also had a cup of coffee with the Oilers earlier in the season before being sent back to the OHL. In his seven NHL games, he scored a goal, two penalty minutes and a minus-5 rating.
